A few diversions for your computers too- instead of that boring Windows pointer you can use an exciting Healey cursor and if you leave your computer idle too long your screen may be rescued by a Healey screen saver. I do not develop these myself but do what everyone else does and steal them from those that do. Healey things for your computer: click for the links to Cursors and Wallpaper/Screensavers (also Wallpaper from one of the American clubs). These sites offer these facilities along with installation instructions.
Creating your own Wallpaper Note too that virtually any graphic (Healeys included) may be used as "Wallpaper" and provide a background, see "Windows" Help for directions, but an overview and quick guide is: 1.) If the desired graphic is web-based the Windows instructions are: "You can make a graphic from a Web page your wallpaper by right-clicking the graphic, and then clicking Set as Wallpaper." I haven't done this, but it seems easy enough. You should note that this may violate copyrights that the original owners of the images possess unless explicit permission for making such electronic copies is given. Not that such legal niceties are often ever observed, though they should be.... And the quality of the images so captured usually suffers from being blown up to full screen size. 2.) If the desired graphic is a file on your computer it may be set as wallpaper by clicking the "Start" button, then choosing "Settings" and the "Control Panel" option on that, then selecting "Display"- the "Display" should then appear with the "Background" options available. You may then choose between the ones that come standard with windows, or browse amongst your other directories and files for something more appealing, like a Healey. I've done this with various Healey photos and it is easy. Creating your own Screensaver There aren't all that many Healey oriented screen savers about. Its quite easy to do-it-yourself though. Freeware useful for producing slide shows and screen savers is available from www.xat.com. A few minutes was all it took to produce a screen saver using the photos from my 2004 trip to Skye and the Scottish Highlands with the Scottish Healey Club, it uses the three pictures shown in the Photo Gallery as well as a few others. Its available here: Skye Healey Screen Saver, I freely offer it to anyone that wishes to have it, for non-commercial purposes only. It is nearly 700 KB large and would take a fair while to download. When prompted you'll also need to save it to the main WINDOWS folder, and then use the start/settings/control panel/DISPLAY options to set it up as a screen saver. The windows help facility provides guidance on how to install, change or remove screen savers. This software also offers a slide show facility that may be used to create other linked displays of photos for Healeys, social events or whatever appeals to you.... Recovering "Lost" Websites One of the most annoying problems of using the web is finding great sites that then disappear when their owners cease to support or maintain them. These difficulties can now be overcome in many instances by using the "wayback" site that has archived many web pages. Several of the pages I've cited in the technical pages section have been recovered using the archives. The archives and their retrieval capabilities may be accessed at: Copyright© 2004, 2008 James M.
