Cutaway Diagram

This is a cutaway drawing published in Motor Magazine, 16/1/1965 to accompany an article describing the car.

It's quite a nice drawing and illustrates the car's unique monocoque construction and lack of a separate steel chassis or frame.

Kit & Components

This is a photograph taken from a promotional pamphlet distributed by Rochdale Motor Panels.

It shows a full kit comprising the full body with glass, the engine and transmission with the drivetrain and axle. The suspension components are shown too. I do not see any of the hydraulic system or many of the electrical components or wiring.

No interior components are shown, and I suspect there were a great variety of alternatives available to the individual builders.

Mould

Working on moulding the Olympic seems to have been a very unpleasant task- note the lack of any protective breathing equipment. Ah, "the good old days..."

This too is a photograph taken from a published article (The Motor, December 21, 1960).

It shows an early Olympic being moulded.

The underside of my car showing its smooth, aerodynamic finish.

The cars were moulded with the main body done entirely in one piece with the various areas built up to provide a sufficient thickness of material to provide strength for the mounting of the various suspension components.

The only concessions to ironmongery were a steel hoop providing support for the windshield "frame" and a steel cross frame at the front to which the front suspension and steering would mount.

This innovative one-piece construction created a very strong and light body.

It cannot be seen in the picture, but the "deep" underside of my car is still the original red gel coat- the Metallic Blue is a later addition.
